Help River pay for trans surgery
Donation protected
I live in the UK where the National Health Service under-serves trans patients, and they are not funding a necessary surgery which I have been referred for by a gender specialist. I started this fundraiser to raise money to pay for the surgery I need, called an orchidectomy. The money raised will go to paying for consultations, surgery from a private practice in the UK, aftercare, any other costs regarding travel or accommodation near the clinic, and for dealing with any potential complications. I am hoping to start the process as soon as possible since this is something I have known I wanted for years and years but have never been financially secure enough to afford.
About me: I am a dedicated activist and organiser, a huge nerd, and loyal friend. I work for an NGO where I make software to help grassroots activist campaigns and unions. I represent women and nonbinary people in the tech industry as the Women's Officer and as a worker representative in my trade union. I also volunteer with the Anti Eviction Mapping Project using data to fight homelessness and eviction. When I'm not fighting the power I'm usually playing football with my amazing women and nonbinary people's football club, Goal Diggers FC. You can also find me playing Geoguessr, taking a long bike ride, or chilling with friends.
I'm lucky to be where I am today. I was kicked out of my family home for being trans at 18, and was homeless and in and out of youth homeless shelters in the USA for years. I moved to Berlin with a little cash and while living in squats and sometimes begging for money on the street, I taught myself to code, something I always wanted to apply to social justice applications. Now at 28 I'm lucky to be able to work on social justice tech, be involved with labour organising and housing rights activism, and use my skills for the benefit of other poor and working class people. But not having any family support my entire adult life has made it difficult to have stability and financial support to reach mental and trans healthcare goals. Unfortunately I'm unable to afford to put money in savings at the present, and the winter is looking ominous for energy bills, so I can't see any way to be able to afford to have this surgery that I have needed for years without asking for support. I appreciate every donation. Thank you so much.
