Help a Black family get a doula
Donation protected
Hi there! My name is Adia and I’m a Black doula in Tucson, AZ. As you may imagine there aren’t many of us here. With that in mind my goal is to support as many Black families as I can so that they can bring their new babies safely into the world.
I’m currently supporting a new family that is experiencing a lot of change as they prepare for a new baby. There’s a change in the relationship, as the parents are in the middle of a separation. That change is bringing a change in housing, financial security, the ways in which the coparents work together to raise their babies (because they also have a toddler), and more. They are looking to the community to support them in their desire to have a doula present through this process.
As their doula I’ll be supporting them throughout the entire process.
As prenatal support I’ll:
-Support the entire family (including a grandparent) as they prepare by helping them develop a delivery and a postpartum plan
-Prep the mother so that she and her body are prepared for delivery
-Prep for the implementation of the recovery plan
-Support the mother as needed
-nourishment that prepares the body for delivery
As labor and delivery support I’ll:
-Be the primary physical and emotional support during delivery
-prep the room
-provide nourishment to sustain the mother during delivery
-provide support for the mother while interacting with medical personnel
As postpartum support I’ll:
-provide comfort measures for recovery
-placenta care
-nourishment conducive to recovery
-babysitting for the toddler (specifically) but both children if needed
-simple cleaning as needed
-lactation support
-support for the family as they begin navigating coparenting, helping the father understand ways to support within the bounds of their new relationship, etc.
Your donation will go towards my fees as their doula and towards the needs of the family as they prepare for their new arrival. Any donations made beyond the $2500 will go towards fulfilling their wishlist (diaper, baby clothes, etc.) But our ultimate goal is to allow this new mother the support she needs to navigate this pregnancy, arrival, and the many changes in her life with as much ease as possible. As we know stress can negatively impact a pregnant person’s body, causing complications such as premature labor. Let’s do what we can to prevent that. Alleviating money worries, allowing a neutral party to be present during pregnancy, labor/ delivery, and the recovery period, will allow her to focus on the millions of other things that adults deal with on a daily basis. Having a doula present during delivery will allow the family to focus on the needs of their new baby, rather than the state of their relationship and any negative feelings that could potentially arise. Having a doula present after delivery will help fill the inevitable gaps that will arise while they coparent from separate homes. A single mother with a toddler and a newborn needs as much support as possible so that they can navigate nursing, sleep deprivation, etc. That’s me! I’m that support. And the more financial support they receive the longer I can support her without neglecting my own family and needs. So basically this is a 2 for 1! Supporting two families with one donation.
