Help A Child Access ICT Lessons in Dalun, Ghana
Hello friends,
We, Valencia Ngunjiri and Purity Wanjiku, have had the privilege of interning at the Dalun ICT Centre, a vital community initiative providing free ICT lessons, during the summers of 2023 and 2024, respectively. During our time here, we taught children basic computer skills, witnessing firsthand the transformative power of technology education.
The idea for the Dalun ICT Centre was born out of the vision of Mr. Safianu Mahama while he was studying ICT in college. Growing up in Dalun, accessing ICT services and classes was a significant challenge, often requiring one to travel to nearby towns 35km away. Since its opening in 2013, the Dalun ICT Centre has been the only ICT hub in Dalun, teaching thousands of children and community members essential computer skills.
Despite offering free lessons with only sixteen computers, the centre faces significant challenges:
• High Operational Costs: Electricity bills lead to power cuts and disrupt lessons.
• Aging Equipment: Old computers with outdated software limit education quality.
• Limited Capacity: Small size restricts the number of students who can be accommodated.
• Growing Demand: The centre cannot meet the increasing need for ICT education in the community.
Your support can help us address these challenges and ensure the continued success of the Dalun ICT Centre.
Every donation, no matter the size, makes a significant difference. Your generosity will help us maintain a stable and effective learning environment for the children of Dalun.
Together, let's make a lasting impact and help build a brighter future for the children of Dalun. With gratitude, Purity Wanjiku and Valencia Ngunjiri
