Help a Colleague who was Evicted by UCLA Housing

Donation protected
Wadie is a research scientist at UCLA. In February, while sick with COVID-19, UCLA housing served him a 3 day notice of eviction due to a change in his job title within UCLA that made him ineligible to live in campus housing.

Wadie is a distinguished scientist who holds four patents and has been recognized for his excellence in research and teaching. His work is used for critical public interest projects like the prevention of wildfires during California’s ongoing drought. UCLA is lucky to have him, but instead of honoring the contribution he makes to their research mission, they are making his life difficult.

UCLA served Wadie ONLY a 3-day eviction notice while he was too sick with COVID-19 to get out of bed. It took days of phone calls before he could find somebody willing to grant him an extension.

Wadie has faced additional financial hardships. Before living in campus housing, he lost $10,000 after being scammed by a former roommate. He is also fighting an unjust $7,000 repair fee for a minor scratch from a moving van company which he had to use because UCLA evicted him. Wadie also continues to look for long-term, stable housing.

Please support Wadie, a scientist and union leader, in getting back on his feet. Your contribution will help a fellow union member continue his work using science to advance the public interest.
