Hey y’all!
I am an undergraduate student at the University of Texas at Austin. I am pursuing my B.A. in Government/Political Science, with a Minor in History and a Certificate in Core Philosophical Texts and Ideas. This Fall, I will be leaving the USA for the first time to go study abroad in Italy. I have been accepted into the International Studies Institute of Florence, one of Italy's most reputable institutions.
This expedition serves as the culmination of two years of research, working with and studying under Dr. Maurizio Viroli: Professor of Government at UT and Professor Emeritus of Princeton University. In my capacity as his research assistant, I edited a full-length manuscript focusing on Machiavelli's moral character and classical republican thought. My current project is to edit an academic essay on his book, "Prophetic Times: Visions of Emancipation in the History of Italy."
In the Fall of 2024, Dr. Viroli and I will go to Florence to continue our combined research efforts on Machiavelli and Italian history. We will be utilizing the resources of the Biblioteca Nazionale Centrale, which preserves many of Machiavelli's original manuscripts from 500 years ago.
While I am in Florence, I will balance my work with Viroli, along with my studies at ISI.
This is an opportunity that I cannot pass up: It will advance my knowledge of a foreign language and culture, while permitting me to advance my research in an unmatched setting. Where could be better suited to study Machiavelli, the Medici family, and the Roman Empire, than in the heart of Italy?
If you would be willing to donate to my funds, and increase my chances of making this dream into a reality, I would be eternally grateful. Thank you so much for your consideration- Every dollar helps!
