Help a DACA Student Attend Graduate School

Donation protected
Hello! My name is Karen. I am a DACA and first gen student seeking financial assistance for graduate school. I was accepted into the Master of Public Health program with a concentration in Community and Behavioral Health at the Colorado School of Public Health. Although, due to my immigration status financing my education is very difficult. I am not eligible for federal aid or loans. My options for aid are private scholarships, private loans, and institutional aid. Even those are limited. Any aid I can raise will help me reach my career goals and will keep me financially stable in the long term.

For those who don’t know me, my name is Karen Uviña and I am a DACA and first generation college graduate. I graduated with my BA in Psychology and a minor in Sociology. Additionally, I graduate with magna cum laude honors in Psychology. Right now, I am working as a Research Assistant at Denver Health helping disseminate health inequalities, promote positive health, and encourage positive health behavior among Latino communities. My time as an undergrad met with a lot of challenges. Funding my education was incredibly difficult and being the first person in my family to attend college made accessing resources challenging. But I did it! I achieved the impossible and graduated! But now I’m facing a new challenge, graduate school. I will be making every effort possible to fund my education but my immigration status makes the endeavor difficult. On top of that, I will be the first person in my family to pursue a graduate degree.

Getting my MPH will put me one step closer in achieving my career goals. I am passionate about helping others, especially in the area of health. I want to help disseminate health inequalities, I want to be a driving force in promoting equal and affordable healthcare access to our communities, reduce stigmas, and I want to assist in promoting positive health seeking behavior. I want to primarily help the underserved communities. The amount I’m attempting to raise will help fund my tuition, book expenses, and other school fees. Plus you’ll help me get one step closer to my dreams! Education is such a central part of my life and I’m so excited to learn so much about public health. Any amount you can donate will help me a lot! If you can’t donate, a share will help me greatly! Thank you so much for taking the time to read, share, and donate! If you would like to donate through another platform please let me know.

Lots of love,
Kare
