Help A Disabled Autistic Person Get A Wheelchair!
Donation protected
Hey there, I'm Josey (she/they) and I live with chronic pain from back injuries & surgery as well as missing cartiledge and damage to my ankles. I'm also Autistic and using a wheelchair is very helpful for my mobility issues and muscles tightness that also come with being autistic in my case. I also, even at my best attempts not to, tend to wander when I get excited or see something I like.
My current wheelchair has seen me through a lot and it's seeing the wear and tears of our outings. It also offers no real support for my back, as it's just a pretty basic wheelchair. I need something more ergonomic that can help me be more comfortable when I'm going to be in my chair on outings. Sitting in my chair too long now is causing me pain and going without it, is even worse.
I found the PERFECT chair for me, the strongback wheelchair with breaks for both my caretakers and I, plus, it has the right type of back to support me. My current chair is also only 18 inches wide which doesnt allow me much room to shift my hips and be comfy as I'm 5'10".
I don't currently have stable income because SSI keeps denying me and being honestly, quite ableist. They wouldnt even allow me to use AAC or alternate communication in my court date. I'm fighting hard to get this, but they keep throwing wrenches in my gears.
This can pay for my chair, but also a new pad for comfort. Anything left over will be used to get any wheelchair accessories like storage bags.
