Help a Disabled Veteran & His Dogs Escape Homelessness
Hi, my name is Dakota Lawson, and I am a 26-year-old disabled veteran in urgent need of support.
Since losing my job in August 2024, I have been homeless, living in my car with my two dogs. I struggle with severe back issues that require mobility support, as well as mental health challenges recognized by the VA. Despite these hardships, I am determined to turn my life around—I just need a little help to get there.
I am working hard to relocate to Michigan, where I have a small support system that can help me regain stability. My goal is to enroll in school this fall, utilizing my GI Bill to rebuild my future. However, without stable housing, it’s becoming increasingly difficult to make this transition. I also face challenges finding work due to my disabilities, though I am actively searching for employment in my new area.
What Your Help Will Do
I am seeking $3,000 to $4,000 to cover essential moving expenses and secure a stable home. These funds will help with:
• First month’s rent & security deposit so I can have a safe place to live.
• Moving costs to relocate from my current situation to Michigan.
• Basic necessities for myself and my two dogs while I settle in and start working.
I have been fighting to increase my VA benefits with legal help, but the process is slow. The longer it takes, the harder it becomes to escape this cycle of homelessness. I know that with a fresh start and a safe home, I will be able to fully support myself again.
How You Can Help
Any donation, big or small, will make a huge difference in helping me get back on my feet. Even if you can’t contribute, sharing my story would mean the world to me.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story and for any support you can offer. I appreciate it more than words can express.
With gratitude,
Dakota L!
