Help a family rebuild their life after mould
Donation protected
This week, a young family with a 4 year old severely asthmatic son have found themselves suddenly homeless due to mould and damp. We have provided them with emergency accommodation but they have lost almost everything they owned to the damp and mould.
They urgently need help to rebuild their lives, and their possessions.
Melissa, Mark and 4 year old Logan have been in their housing association 2 bedroom house for 3 years. They have been submitting complaints about damp and mould ever since.
The carpets are all wet to the touch. The ceilings are wet.
Their concerns have been ignored (we are raising this separately and our local councillors are helping them) but this week, their house became completely inhabitable. Every room is wet, every wall is wet. Their sofa was covered in green and black mould. Their wardrobes became soggy and have collapsed. Their clothes are mouldy and wet.
Logan’s bed and mattress was covered in green and black mould. Their own mattress and wooden bed frame became wet and soggy, and has had to be taken to the tip.
Mark has been having to take the soggy furniture to the tip, but can only go into the house using a mask as the house smells so bad and makes him cough.
Their clothes, towels, bedding and curtains are ruined and covered in mould.
The family have been sleeping together on a borrowed camp bed in the middle of the living room for months.
They have taken over 120 photos and videos of the damage, and the housing association have claimed to have no knowledge of their complaints or the report from the surveyor.
Logan and Melissa are asthmatic. Logan has had 4 chest infections in the last three months and has been living with Melissa’s parents for the last 10 days to stop the asthma attacks from the mould spores. He has been hospitalised twice and has been very ill.
This means that the family have been split up, and Logan has had to live away from his parents recently. Since he has been at his grandparents, he has been able to breathe easier and hasn’t had another attack.
He has become too scared to go home because he has asthma attacks at home.
We found out about this young family and have been helping them. We have provided them with accommodation for as long as they need whilst they battle the housing association for a safe house. We now need donations to replace their items and furniture, all of which has been ruined.
