Help Gordon Move On From Caregiving & Grief
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Gordon. Six years ago, I moved in with my mother to serve as her caregiver. She was chronically ill: liver transplant recipient, type 2 diabetes, heart and kidney issues. She passed away in April 2022, and I've been straightening out Mom's (and my own) affairs...
Until a property management company purchased my (and five other) apartment buildings in May 2023. Within three weeks of purchase, all tenants were issued termination-of-lease notices for no reason. I have until September 30th to find a place and move. (Yes, they followed the letter of Chicago's "Fair Disclosure" ordinance, but not its spirit) This has come with greater stress since I've been looking for work and trying to find a decent place to live...
Which is why I'm holding a fundraiser. As a caregiver for an elderly parent, I have been dealing with the emotional and financial aftermath. I'm looking for an apartment for me and Mom's two cats, Pascha and Frankie. (One's black, the other tuxedo). Funds raised through this campaign will be used in the following ways:
- Security Deposit/1st Month's Rent/Pet Deposit
- Movers
- Extraneous expenses (like boxes)
- Outstanding bills
I've earned quite a bit, but I also want to make sure I can sustain myself until I find more consistent work. I have a few irons in the fire, but I'm hoping that I can have a new beginning.
Moving on from grieving, loss, and caregiving is difficult, and these are not the circumstances that I would choose. However, I'm striving to do my best and take one step in front of the other. I am grateful to have many friends who I consider extended family. Although I am actively looking for work, I'm also aware that not everything will come together.
If you can donate any amount, I appreciate it. If you cannot, I humbly ask that you share this campaign via social media or other networks. I'm grateful that I could care for Mom during her last few years, and she would want me to move on. I'm hopeful that you can help me during a tough time.
Thank you for reading.
