hi! my name is raviv, and i'm a jewish nonbinary trans man. i've been out as nonbinary for 3 years now, and more recently have been out as transmasculine. my identity is complicated- but one thing is clear: i need gender affirming care. more specifically, i need HRT & top surgery.
my gender dysphoria has always been pervasive, even before i knew what dysphoria was. as a kid in theatre, i delighted in playing male roles, i was excited to bind my chest to play them, and i never wanted to get off stage. all the characters i related to most were men. the more i grew, the more discomfort i felt. now, my chest dysphoria is consuming, it gnaws at me, and i spend a lot of time binding my chest. often, too much time. my ribs ache, and i need a long-term solution.
learning the words for who i am has brought so much to my life. i have a confidence and sense of direction i never knew before. but i still have a ways to go, and obstacles keeping me from getting there.
last year, like many, i lost my job due to COVID. this year, i split with my longterm partner, because he is straight... and i am trans. i go back to school full-time this month (January 2021), a plan i made with my partner when he was still going to be able to help support me. because of all of this- i need help accessing the transition care that i need. the care i can finally pursue now that i am free to be myself.
that's where this campaign comes in. i know i am asking a lot, and i know there are many people in need right now, so if this isn't the place for your support, i totally understand. but if you can, and you want to, i will be eternally grateful.
ESTIMATED COST BREAKDOWN
HRT (hormone replacement therapy): $1800
- this cost is for me to obtain a year's worth of HRT from Get Plume - a trans led service that provides gender affirmation care. they provide prescriptions, monitor labs, write letters of referral for surgery, and just generally make sure you are safe & cared for on your HRT journey. this cost covers the monthly fee, and the estimated cost of the testosterone itself, which is not covered by Plume.
Top Surgery: $10,500
- this is my official quote from my surgeon Dr. Ashley DeLeon at the Crane Center & includes the surgery, as well as facility and anesthesia costs. my insurance officially will not cover this surgery.
Recovery: $1200
- for food, pain medication, and other necessities while i recover for 4-6 weeks.
