Donate to Support Sofea:A Loving Mom on Her Road to Recovery

Dear friends, family, and kind strangers,
I'm reaching out on behalf of my dear friend, Sofea Watkins, and her family, who are going through an incredibly difficult and heartbreaking time. In early September, my friend was diagnosed with COVID-19. She had to stop working as a special education teacher for kids with autism due to the severity of her symptoms and was later laid off.
On September 13th, after her condition worsened, her family rushed her to the emergency room, and what they learned was devastating.
The doctors discovered that her kidneys were failing, she had pneumonia, a partially collapsed lung, colon abscesses and a large tumor on her liver that is being closely monitored for potential surgery. Her blood pressure was dangerously low, and she was in septic shock. Tragically, while battling these life-threatening health issues, she missed her father's funeral because she was in the hospital. This loss, along with the fact that her family has recently lost 10 other close relatives, has taken an unimaginable toll on them emotionally and mentally.
Even more devastating, both her mother and brother recently passed away from the same septic complications she is now facing. This situation has been especially traumatic for her and her family.
She is the matriarch of her family, a role she has embraced with unwavering love and strength. Throughout her life, she has been a giver—a nurturing soul who has always prioritized the well-being of others, whether they were her own children or not. She has been an unselfish provider, always donating her time, resources, and support to help those in need, even contributing to various organizations and causes. Now, she finds herself in a position where she needs the generosity and love she has always shown others.
While my friend has been fighting bravely in the hospital for the past three weeks, her journey is far from over. She has developed abscesses on her liver and colon, extreme anemia, and severe swelling in her body. Although doctors just released her to be intensely cared for at home, it will take months for her to fully recover. During this time, she won't be able to work and will require constant care and support.
While she is on Medi-Cal, which covers basic treatment, she still needs to cover additional medical expenses that are essential for her recovery, including hiring nurses and staff to provide daily care. She also has home and personal expenses that will need to be covered while she's at home recovering. The financial strain on her family has become overwhelming.
We are asking for your help in raising the necessary funds for her recovery. Your donation will go directly toward assistance for home and personal expenses along with providing the care and support she needs during this critical time. Whether you can donate or simply share this story, any support you can offer would be deeply appreciated.
This family has faced so much heartache and loss, and now they are in a fight for her health and well-being. Any help you can provide will make a world of difference.
Thank you for your generosity, love, and prayers.
