Help a Mexican-American youth go to law school
Donation protected
Daisy came back to the U.S., leaving her parents behind after ICE forced them apart. She had returned to Rhode Island because she had hoped her parents could eventually join her here. Unfortunately, due to our ongoing oppressive immigration policies, recently Daisy had to make the difficult decision about whether to stay in the U.S. and remain separated from her family or to leave the U.S. and be torn away from her aspirations here. Daisy had been accepted to college in the U.S. and was hoping to study immigration law to better equip her in her passion to fight for families like hers. Now facing so many financial uncertainties about returning to Mexico and her future education, we are coming together to gather funds that could ease her journey and make her ability to go to school possible.
We are launching this GoFundMe effort to assist Daisy in fulfilling her dreams wherever she is. No-one should have to make the impossible decisions that Daisy has been forced to live through, based on horrible immigration policies. The least that we can do is to donate to help her pursue an education in Mexico or the U.S. (or both), in order to follow her dream to become a lawyer and advocate for immigrant rights.
Daisy wants to help others; she is an exceptional organizer. While still in high school she began her work with the George Wiley Center as a bilingual community organizer for low-income families, offering direct assistance and pushing for policies to stop utility shutoffs. Along with other outreach and educational materials, the Center's "Utility Consumer Rights" booklet was translated into Spanish by Daisy and has been a critical resource to Spanish-speaking communities in Rhode Island. Daisy has spoken on the phone and in person, acted as an interpreter at community organizing meetings, spoken out at the state house, and stood up on the side of justice and love for our global community.
As the oldest child of parents facing unjust immigration policy in the U.S., Daisy also spent her teenage years as translator, advocate, activist, and wage earner on her family's behalf while her father faced an unjust deportation. Daisy has experienced the pain of injustice that many immigrant families go through. By investing in Daisy, we are helping to assure that her organizing skills and experience will be put to use to help fight against the policies and programs that continue to tear apart families.
Your financial support will go toward education, transportation, and living costs to encourage Daisy to use the lessons learned and turn pain of injustice into an understanding of how to fight against injustice. With your generosity, Daisy will be able to enroll in college to study Law in Mexico or the U.S. in order to advocate for a better world, wherever she is. Thank you for taking the time to learn more about Daisy’s challenges and aspirations. Thank you for your contributions, 100% of funds raised will go directly to Daisy. And most importantly, thank you to Daisy for her continued commitment to kindness and justice, and for being an inspiration to others.
