Mom and Son Bobby and Toni Cancer Expense Fund

In July, my sister-in-law, Toni, was diagnosed with Kidney Cancer,  Stage 4. Three months later her son Bobby was diagnosed with Throat Cancer.
It has been a very trying time for the entire family especially during this pandemic when the need to quarantine is so critical for them both.

Toni was set to have her kidney removed a month later in August. Her Urologist sent her for a full body CT that showed some spots on her lower vertebrae that he felt were suspect. He then sent her for an MRI for more clarity. After both were deemed inconclusive, he agreed to go ahead with the surgery but only if she had a biopsy on the spots of concern in her lower back. On the day of the surgery, the Urologist called to say that Toni’s Kidney Cancer indeed had spread to her spine. She had Stage 4 cancer. He cancelled the surgery to refer her to an oncologist.

Her oncologist decided chemo would be very toxic and hard on Toni so he's decided to go a different direction  is now undergoing immunotherapy every two weeks. She is in a constant, terrible amount of pain from the cancerous kidney, but radiation and removal may be a possibility in the future.

A couple months later, in December 2020, we learned that Toni’s son, Bobby, my nephew, was diagnosed with Stage 3 Basaloid Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the left Tonsil (Throat Cancer) that has spread to an adjacent lymph node. He had just suffered a stroke a month prior to this diagnosis and has numerous issues related to Congestive Heart Failure at only 56 years of age.

Bobby had noticed a lump on the left side of his neck but the initial ENT he saw said it was nothing to be concerned with. During the next several months the lump began to grow, making it more difficult for him to swallow. He decided to see an Oncologist/Hematologist, who referred him to a higher level ENT who did a biopsy on the swollen lymph node.

The biopsy came back positive for cancer in both the tonsil and in the lymph node. Bobby has just started chemotherapy and radiation, which will last for T least 7 weeks. Chemo once a week; radiation 5 days a week. Although his treatment has only just begun, doctors have warned him of the potential (and probable) long-term side-effects, including damage to salivary glands, mouth and gum lesions, teeth problems, facial skin burns, increased difficulty swallowing, lymphedema (swelling), and the likelihood of a feeding tube. A very long road to recovery.

Bobby, and his sister Jamie, had been caring for their mom Toni, 24/7 during her battle these past couple of months, taking turns staying with her at her home for three or four days at a time each. She started this journey active and strong but has since lost near 60 lbs, and has also lost strength in her legs. Since Bobby’s own diagnosis in December, he is unable to further help his sister with their mom's care, leaving Jamie to take care of her daily needs, which are many!  Outside assistance will cost more money than any of them can afford right now with all three on mere disability.

Unfortunately, health insurance can only cover a portion of Toni and Bobby’s treatments. The bills for radiation, chemo, and immunotherapies added with the various secondary treatments, MRI/PET/CT scans, and tons of routine maintenance medications and hydration therapy are starting to add up, not to mention potential surgeries, in-home care, and doctor visits. We graciously ask you to consider donating to help cover the cost of their treatments and give them some peace of mind with their expenses in the long months and possibly years to come.

We understand this has been a difficult year for everyone, and if you’re unable to donate, we ask that you please keep Toni and Bobby in your prayers and share this page with your friends and family as often as possible.

Thank you for visiting this page and for taking the time to read Toni and Bobby’s story.

Sincerely,

The Slinkard and Wilson Family

**I am Toni's sister-in-law, and Bobby's Aunt. Our family has watched these two, mother and son, fight through Toni's Kidney Cancer these past 6 months,  and with Bobby now being diagnosed with throat cancer has been very difficult for all of us. We are all so close.

I'm am hoping that we can all help them with the huge amount of financial burden that the next year will most definitely be bringing them and relief for the family members supporting them through their fight

All donations will be accrued in a joint savings account for them both and will be managed and paid out as needed by Bobby's wife Dena and sister Jamie. This money will go toward all the things mentioned above, also to help with daily needs of living, bills and and payments as necessary. Toni is on SSI and Bobby SDI, with all unemployment having run out at this time.

Thank you again for visiting. Your generosity will be a huge help and greatly appreciated. Updates will be continued on both of their behaves, with their own consent
