Help a Mother Heal from Severe Accident Injuries
Donation protected
My mom was in the jeep on the accident that happened on January 23rd on Blair Hight Rd and Hwy 36. She was in the jeep, and the Sprinter van directly hit my mom's door. She had to be intubated on scene and was not breathing upon arrival to the emergency room. Her abdomen muscle was torn away upon impact, and all her organs were pushed up into the chest and lung area. They performed an emergency surgery where they had to remove her spleen, and a lot of work was done to stabilize her. After her initial surgery, she has been in the ICU with extensive internal organ damage. Some blood on the brain that the neurosurgeon believes and hopes the body will heal on its own. She had to be taken down additional times to find internal bleeding and a hole in her bladder. She has broken ribs that are still broken, as the surgeon cannot operate on them until the internal infection is taken care of. She has had temporary pins placed in all of the pelvis area, and it is just many things yet to be determined. Now, we have fluid in the lungs; pneumonia has set in because of the breathing tube, and now a trachea is in its place. She is receiving oxygen with mask treatment to help with the fluid in the lungs. All while fighting multiple infections. We are praying for the best possible outcome, and it seems we are two steps forward and then back again. We don't know where things will go from here, and many of the medical staff say to remain patient as we have a long road to recovery. My mom has been responsive, can wiggle her toes and fingers, and has nodded to commands. She is still not able to speak and is battling a lot. The response of emergency personnel, as well as all the doctors and nurses, has been amazing. Any help would be appreciated. This has been a very extreme experience and very heart-wrenching. I was watching my mom's phone location and knew of the accident. I was headed home from my dad's office and noticed her location was not moving from the intersection. As I drove through the detour of the highway being closed, I realized it was my mother's vehicle as I was coming down the hill on Highway 36. Thank you to the kind fireman who comforted me there. I just missed my mom by ambulance, and I immediately went to the Emergency room. I spend most of my days and evenings here in the ICU, and I have the responsibility of trying to figure all of this out now. This goes far and beyond anything financial, and this is a life-changing moment. I pray that we can experience rehabilitation, and nobody can answer if this will be a short-term or even long-term disability. It is so much, and she has so much recovery before any of this can be determined. She even broke bones in the back. This is very hard to write out, and I feel so much is missing based on everything that has happened. Please help if you can. I am managing all I can for now.
