Help a music composition student study abroad!

Hi! My name is Mica and I'm a music composition student at the University of North Texas. My dream career is to write music for media like movies, games, and live theatre. I've already started that dream by writing commissions for short films and games, but I've yet to begin the live theatre aspect of composition.

And that's where UNT's Study Abroad program comes in!

This summer, I'll have the opportunity to join other UNT students in a month long trip to London where we'll explore the history of live theatre as well as the contemporary theatre of today. We'll see many shows, get behind the scenes access, and receive instructional courses on live theatre. On the weekends between class days, I hope to explore Europe more and use the inspiration to compose music throughout the trip. This type of international journey is something I've always dreamed of, but never thought I'd be able to afford.

My family is incredibly supportive and has helped me as much as they can, however both of them have health conditions that demand heavy financial costs, such as my father's heart medication and surgery, or my mother's routine visits and medication for dementia.

With my parents' health taking priority, I'd like to look elsewhere to raise money for this journey. I've taken out a student loan to support the trip, but I hope not to rely on it too heavily. My studies almost entirely prevent me from working more than 10 hours a week due to the rigorous music program UNT offers. I've applied to the scholarships I'm eligible for, but have only received one. These situations leave me in need of aid. However, this is an opportunity I may not get after college. This trip is significantly more affordable than if I were to organize it on my own.

If you'd like, I'd love your help! I only ask that you do not overextend yourself financially to support me. As much as I'd love a fully funded trip, the last thing I'd want is anyone to hurt themselves trying to help me.

The rest will be covered with loans, though will leave me with almost no extra incase of emergency / for personal expenses. Your funding will help secure my finances while I'm away and minimize the damage from loans! :)
