Help a Palestinian family move to a safe home in Belfast
Donation protected
On 17th August, the home of a young Palestinian family living in east Belfast was attacked by three men, who verbally harrassed and intimidated the family to leave. The attackers broke a window, banged on doors and jumped on a plastic roof covering the property’s yard. The father of the family came home to find his wife hiding under their bed, with their one-month old baby.
They have since been moved to emergency temporary accommodation in Ballykelly - over 60 miles away from Belfast, where the family must continue to travel to attend medical appointments with their baby. The father has just lost his job in south Belfast because he is unable to get to work on time.
The family want to move to a safe home in Belfast as soon as possible. They are looking for private rented properties in west Belfast, where the family have a good support network, but demand and prices are sky-high. A landlord of one property was seeking 6 months’ rent in advance.
Belfast is now their home. The family's grandmother is travelling from Palestine to visit them in Belfast at the end of August, but there is nowhere for her to stay.
Please consider donating so that they can live, work and raise their baby in peace and safety.
The family would use this money to:
- Cover the cost of travel between Ballykelly and Belfast, until they find a home in Belfast
- Put down a deposit and rent upfront for a new home in Belfast
- Pay for basic living expenses, now that the father has lost his job
