Help a Queer Couple and Their Cat Flee to Safety

We are a queer mixed-race couple, an educator and native artist, living in a small rural town in the United States with our precious cat Rhea. We have spent the majority of the last decade building our life together, doing our best to overcome life’s many trials one step at a time. It has been hard, but we have managed to overcome it with help from my mom and the kindness and generosity of others.

Recently, we lost my mother suddenly to cancer, leaving us missing the major member of our support network. She had always taken great pains to ensure we were cared for, and in her last days, hoped that the country would make the right decision come November to make sure we would stay safe once she was gone. She knew the risk Project 2025 posed directly to people like us, and she knew we would have to flee the country should the Republicans gain power again. In the week of her passing, the Democrats had the widest lead they had had the entire cycle. She still had hope.

Tragically, my mom passed in September, and the election on November 5th did not go as we all had hoped. We now know we are no longer safe to live in the country anymore. We will have to quickly sell our home and flee to Canada in the hope of avoiding the worst of what Project 2025 has to offer.

We currently live paycheck to paycheck and have no savings safety net. We are seeking funds to help us get our passports, vaccines, certification, and cat's medical records updated so we can flee the country as soon as possible.
