Help Grace and Emmy Secure Their Future

Given the recent news, we are trying to secure our lives in every way possible to prepare for any and every worst-case scenario. This looks different for everyone in the country. For this biracial AFAB queer couple, it looks like buying passports for the first time, getting a reliable vehicle to trade in for the 150k+ mileage vehicle we have now before tariffs make this impossible, switching to private insurance in order to have access to life-saving medication, and building any amount of savings should we need to leave our home, which is sadly a very red state.

We are already at a disadvantage with our current vehicle. We were given a predatory loan and are upside down in debt, but we know this is a car that will give us, at most, two years. We do not have the luxury of living in a walkable city. And should we need to leave to a blue state to protect our rights, we need a reliable vehicle. Shall we need to leave the country altogether, we require passports, something we don’t have the funds for immediately. Realistically, this would be our first step, and to also get them expedited so we could possibly receive them before January.

We only have insurance because of Obamacare/ACA, whichever you would like to call it. One of us requires life-saving medicine for epilepsy. This, again, is not a luxury we can live without. We are a very hard-working, frugal couple. All of the money raised will go directly to a down payment for a vehicle or go toward access to insurance, savings, and passports. Passports expedited will be about $200 each.

A down payment for our vehicle would ideally be anywhere between $3-4k, not including paying down the amount of which we make payments on every month.

Any spare will be going into a savings account should we need to leave to another state or country.
