Help a Refugee Family start a new life in St. Paul

We are Jill and Colin Chisholm from the St. Paul, Minnesota community. We are raising funds to sponsor Ethiopian refugees Sintayow and her son Jabez to immigrate to St. Paul, Minnesota. Sintayow is the cousin of Aga and Habtamu Ayana, our dear friends now living in St.Paul. She was forced to flee her home country of Ethiopia for Nairobi, Kenya when she was expecting Jabez 9 years ago. In Nairobi Sintayow and her sister and cousin opened a café and worked together to support their families while waiting to be approved for immigration to the US or Canada. Life in Nairobi is hard and very dangerous for refugees, especially single mothers. Sintayow’s sister and cousin were recently approved for sponsorship by a group in Canada who could support a limited number of refugees. Since they left, Sintayow and Jabez have struggled on their own. They very much want to immigrate to St. Paul, Minnesota and live near Aga and Habtamu in a safe supportive community. People from our church in St. Paul have formed a Private Sponsorship Group (“Sintayow Saints”) through the US Department of State’s Welcome Corps program to apply to bring them here. We will support their successful transition in many ways including raising enough money to cover their expenses for their first 90 days.
