Help a Restaurant, Feed a Doctor - NY & Florida

Thanks to your support, we are proud to have delivered over 3,000 free meals to our healthcare heroes at 22 hospitals with our “Help a Restaurant, Feed a Doctor” initiative!  We recently expanded our movement and provided hundreds of meals to front line hero paramedics at 11 FDNY EMS Stations.

First and foremost we hope all your families are doing well during this challenging time. 

As you have seen on the news New York City has been especially hit hard by Coronavirus/COVID-19.  We wanted to come up with a way to give back to those hardest hit in our city while supporting those who risk their lives selflessly to save others.  Hospitals are facing supply shortages and are reaching capacity fast.  Countless restaurants have closed and laid off people.  The ones that are open remain struggling only able to sell for delivery or pickup.  What if we could help local restaurants stay open and provide excellent meals for medical staff at the same time.  

On March 24 we made our first delivery of 50 individually packed dinners to the doctors, nurses and staff at NYU Langone KP15, the first COVID-19 ICU unit in the hospital.  The food was from one of our local favorite restaurants, Loi Estiatorio of W 58th Street.  Chef Maria Loi and her team have been integral partners in our mission to provide the best quality free meals to our healthcare heroes.

We raised the cost of the first meal personally and within our building on W 58th Street.  We’d like to expand and help more restaurants feed as many doctors, nurses and hospital staff as possible as a way of showing our appreciation and raising hospital morale .  We’d greatly appreciate donations so we can continue to do the same.  It’s the least we can do to support our fellow New Yorkers.  Below are some photos from our first meal successfully delivered as well as updates of each of our deliveries now totaling over 3,000 meals to 22 hospitals in NYC!

Seeing the impact this is making in New York City we partnered up with our good friend Jennifer (Uchitel) Litwin in the south Florida area to expand the movement.  She will be working with south Florida hospitals and local restaurants in an effort to support small businesses while being able to give back to medical teams on the front line of Coronavirus/COVID-19 care.  We know through this very strenuous time it is difficult for medical teams to take a break, let alone have a good meal.  With your help we look forward to supporting local jobs and spreading positivity through this time of crisis.  To support Jennifer's Florida initiative please select Jennifer Litwin on the referred by donation option.

Having taken part in one of our largest meal deliveries to date to Mount Sinai, MakiMaki Sushi and founder Kevin Takarada have enthusiastically joined our team to bring as many meals to front line COVID-19 doctors, nurses and medical teams throughout the city.  Since joining our team they have been involved in delivering over 700 meals!  Please consider joining the cause and supporting MakiMaki's next hospital delivery by selecting MakiMaki on the referred by donation option.

We couldn't succeed in our mission to provide free meals to healthcare heroes at local hospitals without our restaurant partners.  With the delivery of 100 individual meals to the doctors, nurses and COVID-19 staff of Mount Sinai West in Manhattan we welcomed Mari Vanna to our team. The team lead by Boris Artemyev are honored and humbled to be part of the initiative.  For the first delivery they went above and beyond putting together a multi-course dinner including borscht, pelmeni, vareniki and sirniki for dessert.  The medical staff loved it!   Since then they have been involved in delivering over 700 meals!  Please consider joining the cause and supporting Mari Vanna's next hospital delivery by selecting Mari Vanna on the referred by donation option.
