Help Rescue an Island in Crisis
Donation protected
Citizens’ Climate Lobby is organizing this fundraiser to benefit KiriCAN, The Kiribati Climate Action Network. Donations of up to $1000 will be matched.
The Pacific Island nation of Kiribati is one of the most remote places on the planet, seemingly far-removed from the pressures of modern life. While their environmental footprint is next to none, it is one of the first countries that must confront its imminent submergence caused by sea-level rise. At stake is the survival of the Kiribati nation, people, and 4,000 years of Kiribati culture, language, and traditions. Most imminently, Kiribati is currently facing water shortage , with many at risk from drinking contaminated water.
KiriCAN is the first non-governmental organization established in Kiribati to focus on issues related to climate change such as water contamination and rise of sea level. It is a network of community-based organizations, local affiliates, and non-governmental organizations. KiriCAN, like CCL, emphasizes climate education and building political will to drive action on climate. More information about Kiribati and KiriCAN here .
Donations will go towards supporting KiriCAN’s numerous projects, such as advocating for actions on climate change, engaging the public, land reclamation from the ocean, and supplying freshwater and improving desalination plants.
CCL is grateful to KiriCAN for allowing us to support their efforts and any donations will go a long way. Donations here are not tax-deductible.
