Help A Trans Floridian Start Over
Donation protected
Hey again everyone, I'm Rhys, a young nonbinary, neurodivergent adult who is fleeing Florida to move in with my friend and their roommate in a trans-sanctuary state.
With the help of the community here on GoFundMe, I was able to raise $3,000 to fund my move from Florida to my sanctuary state.
For 6 months after my move, I lived with my friend and contributed to their rent while looking at apartments for myself, meeting potential roommates, and making money for the next move.
My long distance transgender girlfriend at the time was forced to move out of her ex-boyfriend's house in a very rural, conservative area. I invited her to move in with me because I was looking for roommates anyway, so after that 6 months living with my friend, my girlfriend and I lived together with the incredible generosity of a potential roommate in their apartment for 3 months while we figured out what to do next.
In March, my girlfriend and I moved into our own apartment, and it was a really amazing experience to live in our own space for the first time, and in my first apartment ever.
I went kind of radio silent for a while because I felt guilty about asking for anymore money after I got a job and moved into our apartment. Things weren't all rosy though.
I am updating my GFM now in October 2024 because my -- now ex-girlfriend, but we are on good terms and remain really great friends -- unexpectedly lost her job. Before that even happened, we were just barely making ends meet, and after all of the apartment move-in costs and buying some essentials (trash can, bath towels, cookware -- we didn't move with anything but our clothes and personal care items) I had spent all of the money that came from donations. By our estimation, we believe we have enough money to pay our rent and bills for November, but that's about it.
While she looks for a new job and I look for a second job to better our chances, I came back to ask for anymore kindness the GFM community could afford us so we can stay afloat until one or both of us find employment.
