Help a trans latina-ofcolor pay for surgeries
Donation protected
i’m in need of financial support to assist in paying for emergency surgery. i'm a mestiza/Asian trans woman of Central American descent, stylist in BC. I was born with a smaller than normal windpipe which causes issues with breathing, sleeping and having a regular flow of oxygen reach my brain. This greatly impacts my overall physical and mental health. Without this surgery, it can result in me dying at a much younger age than normal. I don't have health insurance and these surgeries are not considered medically necessary and are instead classified as cosmetic according to the health care system in BC. i also don't have any financial support from blood family and am turning to my community to reach out for help.
the surgeons were originally quoting me 6-8 months later surgery date than expected because of COVID-19 and the lack of beds. however, they called me last week and informed me that a space has opened up for me in the next coming month. this surgery is something that i've been waiting for my whole life but haven't been able to accomplish due to lack of funds. i was working a ft job pre pandemic but was let go because of covid. it's been hard for me to save up for this surgery while having to survive on my own and simultaneously facing transphobic/racial discrimination in my last two work places with one resulting in me getting fired for addressing the transphobia i was facing.
This fund was created in order to pay for my surgery and 2 months of rent for recovery as recovery can take up to 3-4weeks where my mouth will be closed shut with metal plates and I will have to be bed ridden for the first little bit. A second procedure will be performed by the same doctor which is a gender affirming surgery which will allow me to partially alleviate my gender dysphoria.
The pre surgery appointment is on October 2nd and that’s when the full amount of $10,300 needs to be paid in person!
Surgery - $10,300
4 months Rent - $3,840
recovery funds for food, nurses, transportation to and from hospital etc. - $3,000
Racialized trans women of color deserve to live long, healthy and prosperous lives. Please help me in making this come true for me by donating or sharing!
