Help Ukrainian refugees: Michael & Katya
Donation protected
Michael and Katya were a hardworking, young couple starting a life together in Eastern Ukraine. On February 24th, their lives were turned upside down when they awoke to air raid sirens and explosions throughout their city. Forced to flee to a nearby village, they sheltered in a makeshift basement for several weeks as the Russian army took over the area.
As the days wore on, basic necessities such as food, power, and water became more and more scarce and the enemy began raiding homes, stealing anything they could find, as well as torturing, assaulting, and killing civilians. With humanitarian corridors to the west blocked and aid unable to reach the occupied area, Katya and Michael made the difficult decision to flee through the dangerous, occupant held territory and into neighboring Georgia.
The harrowing trip took days and, eventually they made it to safety with little but the clothes on their backs and whatever possessions could fit in a suitcase. They continued their journey to Mexico where they were able to, legally, enter the US and connect with friends in the country.
While the most dangerous part of their journey is over, they have lost their home, their jobs, and are starting over in a new place. While Michael and Katya are incredibly grateful to no longer live in constant fear, the future is still uncertain as they have left everything behind. Over the last couple months, we’ve watched people all over the world come together and help Ukrainians in any way they can and we are coming to you now asking for support for this young family as they begin to recover from the horrors they experienced at the hands of Russia.
All funds raised will be used towards helping the family settle and gain access towards basic necessities such as shelter, food, toiletries, etc.
Your help is greatly appreciated!
