Help A Veteran Stand Again
Make A Veteran Stand Again
My Name is Tom Figliuzzi, This GoFundMe request is to help my Wife, A Veteran that served 22 years in active duty acquire a specialized Wheelchair so as to stand again!
To those that are not aware, my wife Launette Figliuzzi, was permanently paralyzed on May 30th 2020.
She became paralyzed due to the out of control Rioting in Mpls for those 3 intense riots that went on and on completely unchecked. She made it to Fairview Hospital in Princeton, but they needed to Air Flight her per helicopter ambulance to a Mpls Stroke hospital where they would have injected a TPA drug into her spinal cord to break up the blood clot. Launette never got that opportunity to have that drug injected into her spine as she was denied that opportunity.
Launette served in the Active Duty Military for 22 years, and then went on to perform a second career as County Veterans Service Officer in which she served thousands of veterans. She only recently retired, as she is almost 60 years of age now. But the out of control rioting in Mpls caused the Air Ambulances to be grounded, so even though she was told by the doctor that she would be air lifted to the more equipped hospital to gain the injection she needed, she was denied that opportunity due to the grounding. Because the bridges and roadways were taken over by the rioters, the ground ambulance had great difficulty in getting her to the hospital in the time needed and she therefore started to slip into paralysis.
Launette spent the entire summer of 2020 in the VA’s Spinal Cord Injury center in Mpls, and no family not even her husband were allowed to visit her due to COVID19. Just try to imagine that. She remained there alone to discover her new life of being paralyzed from the Chest down to her toes, with no comfort of her family.
So now Launette is facing problems that comes with not being able to walk or stand, and she will need to acquire a Standing Power Wheelchair. These range from $20k to $41K. The one we are looking at acquiring is a Redman. The Redman Power Standing Wheelchairs are made in Arizona. They will not only stand her up so that she can have the necessary circulation that she needs and for her to place weight on her bones so her bones do not become overly weak and brittle, but it will allow her to access her cupboards in the kitchen, as well as she would be able to maneuver through our home and have some of her ability back brought back again. A very important aspect to the Redman Power Standing Wheelchair, is that it also helps the paralyzed person perform very important stretching physical therapy. It is an extremely great health investment for the paraplegic and it will allow her a quality of life that she cannot have being confined to sitting in a chair.
