Help a Victim of a Homophobic Attack Seek Asylum

We are reaching out to ask for your help & support for a dear friend of ours, who is seeking asylum in Spain after facing a violent homophobic attack in June 2022 that threatened their life & led to further harassment in the following weeks & months. After being exposed publicly & being subjected to threats by family members, our friend has to remain anonymous for their safety.
Our friend is a talented filmmaker & artist in their mid-twenties; a beloved member of our community, they are known for their incredible creativity, kindness & resilience. Despite the traumatic events they have endured, they remain focused on their dreams for the future, namely using their degree in filmmaking to seek work directing short films.
Because of this, our friend has decided to seek asylum in Spain to get away from the dangerous situation at home & start a new life. However, the process of seeking asylum is difficult & costly. Although we've already raised $1,700 USD to cover the flight from Amman, the insurance & the visa fees necessary to reach Spain, asylum applicants can't work legally until their claims are processed, meaning that — without all of our help — our friend won't be able to get by once they arrive. While they've been working 50hrs/week to save as much money as possible before leaving, with everything happening so quickly they urgently need our assistance to ensure they're able to stay afloat financially until their asylum claim is processed & they can work legally again.
Aside from the funds we've already raised, what remains to be covered is:
Rent for six months in Madrid: $2,400
- This includes a modest apartment withbasic amenities.
Basic living expenses for six months: $3,000
- This includes essential expenses such as food, electricity, water, and transportation costs.
Legal fees for asylum application: $2,500
- This includes legal representation and assistance with the asylum application process.
Emergency fund: $1,500
- This fund will cover unexpected expenses such as medical emergencies or unforeseen legal fees.
Total campaign goal: $9,400
Our friend is a hard worker, but until their asylum claim is processed they have no choice but to rely on our support to cover these essential expenses. Hence, we humbly ask for your support in helping our friend find safety & rebuild their life free from fear & violence.
