Help a Mozambican Widow Start a Sewing School

Empower a widow to open her own sewing school!

Want to be someone’s hero? Here’s a worthy person who could use a hand up!
This precious woman is Estrela. She has been part of our team since 2017, when she graduated from the sewing course as one of our top students then went on to become our teacher's assistant. She has faithfully passed on her newfound knowledge to each new wave of students that have come in, and many have benefited from her humble patience and sweet spirit. She shared with us that in her heart she dreamed of starting her own sewing school next to her home to have a more restful situation, a bit of a gradual retirement if you will, as she is getting older and some of the more complex projects we do now have been hard for her. We are all about making dreams come true! She is still super creative and still has much to offer others, but would enjoy a change of scenery and a calmer schedule.
Would you consider being part of this new chapter of life for Estrela? Every bit helps!
We’re asking for $1,000, to be used in the following way:
$400 for two sewing machines ($200 each)
$300 for a simple structure next to her house made of cement blocks and a zinc roof (with electricity and windows for plenty of light)
$100 for her starting kit of material
$150 cash to help buy food and necessities until her own business and school gets underway
$50 administrative/money transfer costs
She is eager to help other women who are in tough situations, as she was once. Estrela's husband passed away in 2006 and her son started supporting her. However, her son also died in 2016, which left her and her son’s widow and baby daughter to fend for themselves with no skills or resources. Sadly, in Mozambican culture, widows are one of the most overlooked and neglected groups of people, and life is just hard. When she came to us in 2017, she was full of gratitude and humility, as she is to this day. She now is very proficient at sewing and so creative, especially in coming up with new designs for children’s clothing! We want to see her thrive as she smiles with pride at her own little designs she creates, and always have plenty to live on.
This is our little girl wearing a cute dress that Estrela designed and created!
Come join her story! Every little contribution can make a big difference!

We want to help Estrela build a small structure next to her house to provide shade and shelter from the elements, offer her a starting kit of materials, and two new sewing machines in addition to her personal one she earned so that she can keep working and teach others at the same time.
