Help a Young Asylum-Seeker Stay With Her Sister!
Donation protected
S. is a 17-year-old who was forced to flee her home in Honduras due to threats of violence. She recently joined her older sister W. in the United States. W. is a working single mom of two small children. She is thrilled to welcome her sister into her home, but money is very tight. An immigration attorney advised S. to apply for SIJS (Special Immigrant Juvenile Status) ASAP, before she turns 18. This is likely the best chance for her to obtain legal status in the U.S. It is an expensive, time-sensitive, multi-step process. Please donate to help this household of brave, resilient, badass young women survive, thrive, and stay together in our country! Donating is something you can do now to stand up to the family separation and deportation machine. Your donations will go directly to S’s legal fees, which are outlined below:
Step 1: Guardianship application, $2500
Step 2: SIJS application, $2500
Step 3: Status adjustment application, TBD, likely >$1,000
Step 4: Filing an asylum claim*, $3500
W.’s community has already raised $5,000 to cover the first two fees. We are hoping to raise $4,500 more to cover the asylum claim and the status adjustment application.
*The lawyer explained that filing an asylum claim will buy time and protect S., because it prevents the courts from acting on a deportation order while the SJIS process is unfolding
