Help Abby with Accessible Transportation
Donation protected
To all the friends, family, and coworkers who know Matthew and Abby Emerson, it breaks our hearts to share news that Matthew passed away unexpectedly on March 5th. Matthew and Abby were married for 16 years and after Abby’s accident in 2015, he also became her primary caregiver. He provided home care and transportation, and together they went on adventures and errands and day trips all over New England. He did not let her wheelchair stop her from having fun. He took her “hiking,” and they regularly went to museums and nature centers to enjoy wildlife together.
The loss of Matthew also means the loss of independence for Abby. She is relying on family for home care and errands at this time and looking to the future she will need better tools for independent living. We are setting up this fundraiser with the hope to fund an accessible vehicle for her. Adaptive technology has progressed, and we found a compact lift system that can hoist a wheelchair into the back of a minivan, behind the driver. Here is a link showing the product:
If Abby is able to purchase a minivan and the lift system, it means she can gain independence and take herself on adventures or just out to get groceries on her own. It allows her to carry on with some of the aspects of life that she shared with Matt.
As Abby moves forward with her new life, thank you for any donations you may be able to make toward the purchase of an accessible van and wheelchair lift system.
