Help Abdalkarim's family rebuild their hope
Donation protected
My family has become refugees. We are raising funds to rebuild our life after the crossing opens and we are able to escape. We will need a lot of support as we have lost everything we had. We are seeking help with housing, medical, education, and immigration costs until we can get back on our feet.
We are a family of 10. Myself, my mother and father, two sisters, two brothers, my wife, my two sons.
I never thought we'd be here. We had a beautiful life before.
This is me, my wife Mai, and my two sons, Hima (6 yo) and Taim (4yo)
This is my mom with my kids
These are my two sons Hima and Taim in our home last year.
And this is what our home looks like now, as it was completely destroyed.
We have been displaced more than 11 times after we lost our home. Living in terrible conditions.
In our last campaign we raised 130,000 CAD which is ~95,000 USD. This amount will afford us our travel to Egypt. With the breakdown below:
$8000 on average travel fee to Egypt times 10 people = $80,000
Gofundme's cut of the fundraiser ~$5000
Bank transfer fees from Canada to Egypt ~$4000
The costs of food, tent materials, renting trucks to move when we were displaced 11 times over the past 8 months. ~$6000
However, we have seen from friends that made it to Cairo before it closed, that the situation is still very bad there and it is very financially difficult. As refugees you are not able to use the hospitals, or public schools, finding affordable rents and jobs without citizenship is very hard.
So in this new campaign we aim to raise the funds to rebuild our life after we arrive in Egypt.
The funds from this campaign will go towards the following:
-3-6 months rent and living costs in Egypt while we arrange our immigration paperwork
-passport and visa fees for immigration to Canada (or if we are unable to get Canadian visas, we will need to pay the fees for Egyptian citizenship)
-plane tickets to Canada for 10 people
-school fees for my two children and brothers
-my father has an urgent spinal condition that needs surgery
-my mother has liver injury from hepatitis she caught from the unclean water
It is a big goal I know, but it is our best estimate. So much changes so fast and unpredictably. We have heard them demand $15,000 for men at the crossing randomly at the wishes of the officers working that day. So we hope to have a safety net. If the amount ends up being more than we need we will use it to help extended relatives.
We are anxious to rebuild our lives after so many months of suffering. I am so grateful to anyone who is able to help us. I pray it will end soon and my family will be able to leave. We never thought we'd be refugees like this. All the things we worked towards in our life just vanished. We have to completely start over once we make it out. But I am grateful we have survived so far. Many have not.
