My name is Anum, and I’m writing on behalf of Abdullah, a 21-year-old from Gaza whose life has been completely devastated by the ongoing conflict. He’s a multi-talented athlete with a passion for various sports. He was on the path to becoming a professional, excelling in his pursuits before the war turned his world upside down. I’m helping him share his story and seek the support needed to rebuild his life and the lives of his loved ones.
Abdullah is a graphic design student who had the opportunity to study for only two years at university before the events of October 7th forced him to halt his education. He had big dreams of building a future in the design field, but those dreams were abruptly cut short.
In addition to his academic and athletic pursuits, Abdullah is also a creator of powerful motivational and sports-related content. He inspires others through his dedication to fitness, perseverance, and overcoming obstacles. His content resonates with many, encouraging them to push their limits and stay strong, even in the face of adversity.
He is attempting to raise money for his family:
- His mother
- Three sisters: Sarah, 33; Shaimaa, 30; and Haya, 27
- His younger brother, Ibrahim, 12
- His nieces and nephews: Omar, 5; Nana, 7; Ashraf, 8 months; Tota, 3; and Yafa, 9
Abdullah says:
"I never imagined I would find myself in a position where I have to ask for help, but in this war, I lost everything: my education, my work, my dreams, my memories, and several members of my family and friends. I didn’t just lose my father and my home; I also lost my livelihood and my father’s carpentry workshop, which alone suffered losses estimated at $250,000.
Our lives were peaceful before the war. We lived in a beautiful home on the beach in Gaza City, and we were all actively pursuing our own goals. But everything changed on October 7th.
The day after, our home was bombed. Fortunately, we had left just two hours earlier to go to my uncle’s house because we felt our area had become too dangerous. We lived through moments of pure terror, waiting for our turn to die as the houses around us were destroyed. When the bombardment intensified, tanks surrounded us, and we were forced to flee. My father and my two young nephews were with me when a nearby house was struck, and they were killed instantly.
After burying my father, my older brothers chose to stay in the north, while my mother, sisters, and I moved south. We left with nothing but the clothes on our backs, knowing it was the last time we would see our home.
Our journey led us to a relative’s home in Nuseirat, where we stayed for two months, but the horrors followed us. Forced to flee once more, we ended up in a tent in Rafah, exposed to the cold and rain, with no clean water, struggling to survive.
Life in the tent was beyond difficult. My mother, sisters, their children, and I were all crammed into one tent, trying to stay warm and dry. Disease and hunger became our daily companions.
We fled again, this time to Zawaida, where we spent a single night in a place infested with rats. Unable to bear the conditions, we moved again, to another place in Zawaida too, eventually finding a place in Deir al-Balah, only to be uprooted once more by a recent incursion, forcing us to Khanyounis but we returned back to Deir al-Balah
I’ve been displaced multiple times, and it has cost us about $4500.
I lost not only my father, my home, and our workshop but also my dog, Jack, who was more than just a pet; he was one of my closest friends.
In just one day, I lost my future, my dreams, and everything I had worked so hard to build."
The funds raised will go towards evacuating Gaza. Each adult requires $5,000 to cross into Egypt, and each child needs $2,500. These funds will also cover the expenses we will face once we arrive in Egypt, as well as the costs associated with our many displacements.
