Help Abigail Akers and her family
My name is Jaime Janot and I am a friendof the Akers family. Right now Sheldon & Victoria are going through every parents worst nightmare. It doesn't matter how much baby proofing or how closely you monitor your kids accidents can happen. This family needs our help.
As quoted from Victoria: "We took Abigail into emergency May 3, she kind of sounded like she had croup, they sent us home, told us to come back if things changed"
May 5 we took her to our family doctor, he wanted inhalers and an xray it sounded like she was having trouble breathing he sent us to emergency to be safe.
The ER Doctor did none of that and figured it was strep, swabbed her sent her home, we waited and never got any results.
May 12 Wedneday a week later we knew something still was not right now it sounded like pneumonia. We took her back to the ER and the Doctor heard it too, he checked and the strep test was negative and they sent Abigail immediately for Xrayson the X-rays they seen it was a button battery stuck in her esophagus or trachea.
They rushed her to the OR , at 2pmthey decided not to touch it in case they didn’t have the equipment needed. Abigail was airlifted to Edmonton at 530 where they were able to remove it, Abigail was intubate here so she could heal for a week in the PICU.
May 19 They did another scope and found it is not healing properly, she has a hole between esophagus and trachea, she is still intubated, until at least Friday and we will be Edmonton while she heals for the next 8-10 weeks".
