Help Adam Through a Difficult Recovery
Donation protected
Just three days after Adam celebrated his birthday, our world was turned upside down. On January 7th, just before 9 a.m., as families were heading to school, Adam, a beloved crossing guard, was helping a teacher cross the street at an elementary school in Forest Hill. In a horrific act of recklessness, an SUV, traveling at 40 km/h in a school zone with multiple prominent signs, failed to stop at the crosswalk – even though the driver had just gone through another crosswalk moments before and was on her regular route dropping her child off at the same school. In a selfless act of heroism, Adam pushed the teacher out of the way, taking the full impact of the collision himself. This incident was reported by CP24: https://www.cp24.com/local/toronto/2025/01/07/2-pedestrians-struck-in-forest-hill-collision/
I received the call no one ever wants to get – from the ambulance. I rushed to the emergency room, my heart pounding with fear. The next 24 hours were a blur of tests and X-rays. The results revealed a dislocated right shoulder with a Hill-Sachs deformity, blood in the right retroperitoneum with hemorrhage around the right adrenal gland, a liver laceration, pulmonary contusions in the right middle and lower lobes, and vessel irregularities seen in Grade 1 blunt cerebrovascular injuries. It was a lot to process.
The past month has been a whirlwind of doctor's appointments, follow-ups, and more tests. And the journey is far from over. Adam faces months of physical therapy and the daunting task of navigating insurance and pursuing legal action. Today's MRI results revealed even more serious damage to his shoulder than initially thought. The news is difficult: Adam will not be able to return to his position as a crossing guard. This also means he can no longer coach or teach Muay Thai, his passion and second source of income. The very things that brought him joy and purpose are now out of reach, at least for the foreseeable future.
Adam is a kind, dedicated, and heroic individual. He puts others before himself, as evidenced by his selfless act that day. He is a pillar of our community, protecting our children and inspiring others through his love of Muay Thai. Now, he needs our help.
The financial burden of this accident is immense. Adam has been unable to work for the past month and faces at least 3-6 more months of recovery. The lost income is putting a tremendous strain on us as we struggle to cover rent, groceries, and daily expenses. We are also facing therapy costs and legal fees.
We are starting this GoFundMe to help Adam focus on his recovery without the added stress of financial worries. Our goal is to raise $20000. Every dollar will go directly towards covering his essential living expenses, therapy costs, and legal fees during this challenging time.
Adam is a fighter. He's strong and determined, but he can't do this alone. Please, if you can, donate to help Adam on his road to recovery. Even a small contribution can make a significant difference. And please share this campaign with your friends, family, and network. Let's rally around Adam and show him the same love and support he has shown our community. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
