Support Adham & Huda’s Family: Escaping the war

I reach out to you with a profound sense of urgency for solidarity. My dear friend, Adham Abu-Qaren, who I have known since we were children, and his family remain ensnared at the center of the war zone in the Gaza Strip, and are grappling with unimaginable dangers and hardships on a daily basis.
Adham has dedicated more than 28 years of his life to humanitarian work, tirelessly serving the Gaza community with unwavering dedication and selflessness. Even after my relocation to Canada six years ago, our bond has endured, strengthened by shared values and a commitment to helping those in need. Now, as I witness the suffering endured by Adham's family, I am resolved to do whatever it takes to help them escape before it’s too late.
I've initiated this GoFundMe campaign with the ambitious goal of raising $45,000 USD to assist Adham's family in their quest for safety and refuge in Egypt and beyond. These funds will be allocated toward essential expenses, including coordinated exit from Gaza to Egypt, travel costs, temporary accommodation, sustenance, and critical medical supplies. Each contribution, no matter the size, serves as a beacon of hope for Adham's family, offering them a lifeline amid the chaos of war.

Dear Friends,
I have worked tirelessly with Mercy Corps and other humanitarian organizations for more than two decades, to help vulnerable families through nearly continuous crises. I have remained active in this work through the current conflict even as my family has been displaced multiple times. Now, as we take refuge in Rafah and anticipate the conflict closing in on us here, we no longer see an alternative. It is time to evacuate our family to safety even though it means leaving a part of our hearts behind.
In the chaos of this war, our family has already faced one tragedy beyond words. My sister Hidaya, her husband, three of their kids, and many more loved ones were taken in one day, early in the war. Quite by chance, Hidaya’s daugher, Rawan, was away from the family when the strike happened, leaving her behind, on her own.
Together with Huda, my wife, a dedicated teacher of 24 years is the center of our family’s life for our four kids, who’s unwavering dedication to education has positively impacted countless lives, we agreed to take Rawan into our family as one of our children. And now, having survived one tragedy, we live in fear of another and our end.
I'm urgently seeking your help to evacuate my family from the dangers of Gaza in the coming month. Together with Huda and Rawan, our eldest son, Amjad, (22 years), inspired by Mercy Corps’ Gaza Sky Geeks which I’ve supported over the last decade, has recently graduated with a degree in Software Development, but has been unable to move out to live on his own or to start his own family. Our second son, Anas (21 years), is a fourth-year medical student and is passionately dedicated to healing others. Adam(18 years) has just begun his first year at university, pursuing Software Development based on the inspiration of Amjad. And our youngest, Ayoub (12 years), has had his education interrupted due to the relentless violence of this war.
Additionally, we are also seeking to evacuate my elderly father, who at 74 years old, and has always been our rock, his strength inspired us even in our darkest days, raising twelve kids through love and hard work. He is now on his own and is dependent on us, while facing the grave risks in the current situation.
I plan to continue working as Mercy Corps' Emergency Response Field Director, to continue helping Gaza’s people to survive and bounce back when this war ends. While I am dedicated to continuing this work to make life a little bit better for those who most need support, I cannot do so when my own family lives under fear of attack or death. Once they are safe and settled in Egypt and able to pursue other alternatives beyond Cairo for a brighter future outside of Gaza, I will be able to fully dedicate my energy and focus to the task of rebuilding lives and community.
It's not just work to me; it's my duty. I'm here to stand by my people, bring hope where there's pain, and rebuild what's been broken. Thank you for your immediate assistance and support during this critical time.
