From Ahabyona:
"I am thrilled to share with you that I was admitted to HASPERE master's program in economics!
Growing up in Uganda, I have personally struggled to afford quality education. I also know too many households that have struggled to afford quality education for their children. These experiences have fueled my desire to further examine the incentives and tradeoffs of equitable education and education financing policies, in the hopes that I can inform policy makers in Uganda and abroad to create affordable quality education for all.
In partnership with the African School of Economics, founded by Princeton University's Dr. Leonard Wantchekon, Hunter College has launched the Hunter African School program to Expand Representation in Economics (HASPERE). This program is a rigorous two year master's program that will offer me the life-changing opportunity to study under top scholars from universities like Harvard and prepare me for doctoral work.
At the end of this program, it is my intention to study at a globally recognized doctoral program in economics. However, I have an immediate roadblock. The tuition for the two years master's program costs $32,000. Unfortunately, I have exhausted all other fundraising options and do not have the resources to fund my master's degree. The sad reality is there are few scholarships for master's programs in economics and even less for students coming from the African continent. Despite my tireless efforts to raise funding, in a time ravaged by COVID-19, I am out of options to meet my deadline and am left with this last effort to raise tuition funds by August 1st.
I understand times are extremely difficult right now, so any donation is deeply appreciated and will go a long way in supporting my master's education and eventual doctoral studies.
Please help send me to Hunter College so I can access the network and resources required to see a world where affordable quality education exists for all.
Thank you and God bless you."
