Help Aida Fight Severe C. Diff Infection
Donation protected
Hello everybody!
To start off, this GoFundMe is for my sister, Aida Hamzic who was extremely misdiagnosed by not one, but two GI doctors, both of whom missed one of the deadliest bacterial infections. As a result, she has developed many, likely lifelong, medical issues. After endless testing, numerous medical procedures, malpractice, medical gaslighting and misdiagnosing she is somehow alive after 3+ years with C. Diff.
This past week, we received the unfortunate news that she is once again C. Diff positive, after multiple infections, with one of the most deadly strains of the bacteria, the 027/NAP1/B1 strain. And, after years of medical negligence from multiple doctors in her care, Aida is going to have to repeat the FMT procedure she has already done, and take the expensive antibiotics needed to clear the infection, which out of pocket, is already going to cost thousands of dollars.
My sister is 5'7 and 87 pounds. She is in extremely critical condition and none of her medications are being covered under her marketplace insurance which she already pays $900 out of pocket monthly for. Recently, this same insurance company has taken our primary care physician off her care list and listed him out of network. This doctor is also the most vital in her treatments, giving her vitamin infusions and referring her to the doctors needed to treat her various autoimmune illnesses she's developed such as ME/CFS, POTS, neuropathy and severe malabsorption.
Being the type of hard worker and selfless person that she is, my sister would never want to ask anyone for help, but we are at a loss of what to do at this point. More than three years of this have taken a huge financial toll on us, especially due to insurance not covering the majority of her treatments. As a family, we have explored every possible avenue, including leaving the country to give her the proper care she needs, but even that would be very difficult given her medical state and the rarity of the strain she has.
Please share, even if you can't donate. Anything helps even if it's $1, $5 or $10. Please also keep us in your prayers, thank you all for taking the time to read this.
Update 4/13/25:
My sister has officially been hospitalized for a few days now. First and foremost, thank you all for your efforts, we have know reached enough to cover the first step to her recovery, which is the cost of the antibiotics. Although we still have a ways to go in making sure we prevent this infection from ever coming back, this has been a huge help already!
As far as her medical updates, we knew that she would experience awful side effects from the high strength antibiotics, on top of the already weak condition she was in prior to admittal. And we were right because after just the first dose of Dificid, she began convulsing rapidly and her heart rate shot up to nearly 200 beats per minute. Luckily the doctor walked in right as it happened and he took good care of her, but as her sister this was pretty traumatic, but I'm glad to have been here for her throughout her hospital stay so far.
Also, given the condition she is in now, the hospital has placed her under "room ambulance" which means that she is not allowed to walk around on her own without assistance, for fear of her fainting or falling over. They also have nearly every specialist monitoring her care especially cardiology and nephrology due to her constant raising and falling heart rate and the mild case of neutropenia.
Updates aside, we really wanted to take a moment to thank each and every one of you for the outpour of love and support. The shares, the donations, just in general all the love you have shown is something the whole family is grateful for, thank you all so so much for everything. God bless you all! ❤️
