Let me tell you about my nephew Aidan Baker. Aidan is an avid gamer, a budding coder, a musician, an artist, and a wonderful big brother to his little sister Audrey. He enjoys time outdoors in nature and has a love for his volunteer work! He is only 17 years old but has overcome struggles that would make others quit. Aidan has a HUGE heart for animals and wants to make this world a better place. He is loving and caring and has a big beautiful smile.
About 7 years ago, Aidan lost his father to a car accident involving another driver using illegal substances. This was a devastating loss for him and his family. His mother worked hard to keep their family home and still be there for her kids as a newly widowed mother of two young children. Things were very hard for them especially living on one income instead of two and watching as the Washington State court system delayed the sentencing over MANY MANY years. As a family they chose to move forward and they made it work.
Two years ago they set a goal to move to Panama to learn about other countries and cultures, speak Spanish, and make their dreams of traveling come true. Aidan started attending an International School where he began to excel in academics and community service. He began to volunteer at summer school, engaged with his school wide recycling club, and made a positive impact on his island community.
His mother shared a message she received from a student he helped at his school about what a wonderful young man Aiden has become-
“Good afternoon. I have to share that this morning the front of the school was flooded and Lilah hd no way of getting across without getting her feet completely soaked. She’s too short to even have a hope in hell to get across. Along came Aiden and he piggy backed her across so her feet didn’t get wet!! She thought he was going to jump across with her but he stepped In the middle and got HIS shoes wet so she wouldn’t get hers wet that is one kind gentle man you are raising there! Please tell him thank you for looking out for Lilah”.
Two months ago, he woke his family up because he was having severe chest pains. After two months of specialist appointments that are a one hour boat ride and two hour taxi ride away from his home, he received the news that he will require a pacemaker for the remainder of his life. Not even in his senior year of school, Aiden now faces a serious and severe heart problem that requires immediate treatment. Not only is the initial diagnosis scary, but he will have to continue to have his heart monitored for the rest of his life as well as pacemaker replacement every 10 years if all goes well. Aiden needs surgery, but he also needs to have funds available in order to continue to travel to and from medical appointments.
Please consider helping a wonderful young man who is already making a positive impact on the world despite the struggles he has already gone through.
