**Update**
From Amanda (Aiden’s Mom)
We can’t thank everyone enough for all the support for our family and especially for Aiden. All the prayers, dinners, and donations have been such a big help. Aiden has gotten great reports from his surgeon and Pt/Ot. We knew nothing could keep him down long. Aiden is a boy who loves to play sports, be outside and always enjoys being on the go. I can’t thank his team at Children’s Mercy enough for helping him get back to being him. Multiple trips to Overland Park Children’s for his PT will continue and he looks forward to each one so he can keep getting stronger and get his coordination back on track. Hard to believe a month ago our baby boy was fighting for his life and we weren’t sure what his or our future would hold. His thumbs ups always giving us a sign that he was ok. Today he is our miracle with little deficits that in time he will be 100%. We ask that you please continue your prayers for Aiden and him to continue to keep getting stronger.
*UPDATE*
Aiden was able to enjoy Easter surrounded by family and most importantly, his cousins. Day by day we are getting closer to the Aiden we all knew prior to this situation. Ace has begun out patient physical therapy and rehab. He has left side weakness, very impulsive and his coordination is off. He will continue to do PT twice a week for a bit then go to once a week. Please continue to pray and help their family in anyway possible. Also, we will have additional ways you can help Aiden and the Groves family forthcoming that may benefit you as well. Be on the lookout.
***UPDATE***
Aiden has been released from the hospital and is resting at home. He still has a long road ahead as he continues physical therapy for basic functions such as eating, walking and some cognitive skills. Where the surgery was is a part of the brain that controls nausea, so we are still battling through that as well. Below, you can see how excited Aria was to find out Aiden was coming home!
Thank you for visiting the GoFundMe page for Aiden Groves. This GoFundMe was put in place to help ease the financial burden of medical expenses, allowing the family to continue their focus on caring for Aiden. Any donation, sharing of this page and/or prayers for Aiden are greatly appreciated. All proceeds from this GoFundMe page will go directly to the Groves family (Derek and Amanda Groves), Aiden's medical expenses and Aiden's ongoing medical care. Please see Aiden's recent journey below...
On Sunday, March 26th, Aiden was meeting Mimi and Papa for lunch and bike shopping for his birthday. During lunch at Culver's, Aiden complained of a headache, so Amanda (mom) took him to the car to get him some ibuprofen. However, Aiden collapsed on the grass and started screaming that he was going to be sick. Mimi joined and helped get him into the car. Aiden was sweating and unable to make eye contact. He started vomiting, so they drove to the nearest children’s urgent care. However, realizing they needed a faster approach, they headed to Center Point, which was a trauma center.
Once they arrived, they yelled for help and the front desk of the ER came to the car and grabbed Aiden, taking him to the trauma room where they quickly worked to get his vitals. Unfortunately, his vitals weren't registering, and he was not responding to questions or reacting to any pokes. He started to vomit again, so they removed his clothes, started an IV, and sent him for his first CT scan. At this point, to protect his airway, they decided to put him on a ventilator. They received the results of the CT scan, which showed that he had an aneurysm that had burst in the back of his brain, causing his brain to swell. Word had quickly spread throughout the family and Derek (Dad) and his parents (Gigi and Papa) were already up at Center Point to show their support and gather answers.
Children's Mercy transport arrived and got him ready to be transported downtown. Once downtown, Aiden was taken straight to the PICU and had another CT scan with contrast. He had a shunt put in to help with the swelling on his brain, and an MRI was done to determine a better picture of the situation.
The next day, the neurosurgeon determined that an angiogram would give them a better idea of what they were dealing with. They performed the angiogram and got the results that he had what they believed to be a cavernoma. They planned to remove the blood from the bleed and try to remove the cavernoma the next day. It was a rare case that they hadn't seen before, with this blood pattern and a cavernoma in this specific spot in the back of his brain.
The decision was made to remove the ventilator the night before surgery because Aiden was unable to stay asleep and was getting agitated. Aiden went into surgery the next day around 12:30. They were able to successfully remove the cavernoma and send it off to pathology along with the blood with little issue. Aiden was then taken back to the PICU where he stayed for another day or so. He had an MRI to ensure that all went well before being moved to the neurosurgery floor.

Once on the neurosurgery floor, Aiden had frequent neuro checks. He was able to have the shunt removed bedside with no issues, and a quick MRI confirmed that everything looked well after the removal. Aiden is still in the hospital with mom and dad by his side, working towards walking, eating, and drinking before being able to go home. Through all of this, Aiden has stayed strong and brave, he even celebrated his 9th birthday in Children Mercy's care on April 2nd. We want to thank the staff of Children's Mercy and all the personnel that has helped and continue to aid in Aiden's journey.
