Aisha's Road to Recovery of Walking Again
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Nekiessia and I am fundraising for my best friend and loving sister, Aisha Williams. On the morning of March 19th, Aisha started experiencing pain and a sudden loss of mobility, which left her paralyzed from the chest down within a matter of hours of arriving at the emergency room. For weeks the 12+ doctors assigned to her case could not determine how something like this occurred. After dozens of tests, many sleepless nights, and two hospital transfers later, Aisha was diagnosed with a rare and extremely aggressive case of Transverse Myelitis- a neurological condition that occurs when both sides of the spinal cord are inflamed. The communication that occurs within the nerves to the parts of the body associated with the point on the spine that is affected causes physical issues; in Aisha's case, it resulted in her becoming quadriplegic. She has since been a patient at a rehabilitation hospital, which specializes in spinal cord injuries, to begin her recovery.
Since March 20th I have left my life in Tennessee and moved to Michigan temporarily and with the help of my mother, we have supported Aisha and her children as we manage mental, emotional, and physical difficulties. As a self-employed mother of twin teens, Aisha hasn't had any income since the incident occurred, and due to the severe nature of her condition, we are unsure of when she will be able to work again. I have taken responsibility for almost all of her expenses, but this is a struggle for me and additional help is needed. Her road to full recovery will be long, so any expenses necessary for her and her children to have a good quality of life while she focuses on healing will need to be covered.
All donations received will be used to cover lost wages that support her home and children, food, gas for transportation for the twins to be with their mom/school/etc., and any medical expenses that are necessary for her transition home and recovery.
Thank you for taking the time to read her story
