Help Akko Beat Cancer!

This Gofundme is being established by Chariya, Yvonne, and Michelle for their dear friend, Akko Liboy. Akko has always been a positive, happy, genuine person. She’s a loving wife to Reuben and a wonderful mother to her two young sons: Alexander (7) and Arthur (5). She’s originally from Japan, however she joined her husband to establish a life in Hawaii. She and her husband actively work together running a family air conditioning business and she assists him with his karate dojo, in addition to chasing after her two energetic boys.
In June of 2021, Akko started to have unusual symptoms of bloating and pain. She went in to see her OBGYN which led to an ultrasound. The doctor discovered a 5.5 inch cyst on her ovary. Originally, the procedure on 8/23/21 was to perform a biopsy and if cancer was detected more invasive treatment would be needed. The medical team confirmed that the cyst was filled with aggressive cancer cells (stage 3) so the doctors performed a hysterectomy. This was shocking and unexpected for her and her family.
Unfortunately, after the surgery the doctors discovered additional cancer cells in her stomach. The medical team allowed time for her body to recover from the surgery before they initiated her first round of chemotherapy on September 15 of this year. Since then, she has had five rounds of more aggressive chemotherapy (every 3 weeks). She has another round near the end of this year.
On 11/8/2021, Akko and her family were hit with another unexpected blow. They were the major target of a scam which wiped them out financially. Unfortunately, they have not had any luck recovering their lost funds.
Through Akko’s many medical procedures, appointments, and side effects from the chemotherapy, she hasn’t been able to work. Reuben has also been limited in his ability to maintain work at the same level because of her needed treatments and follow ups that he accompanies her to. Recently, his work van broke down which further limited his ability to do his job to financially support the family.
With ongoing anticipated medical treatment costs, being a victim of a devastating financial scam, and work being limited, Akko and her family have been struggling emotionally and financially. Although chemotherapy targets the cancer cells aggressively, it has taken a toll on Akko’s physical and mental health. She has experienced chronic nerve damage, exhaustion, weakness, shooting pain, and depression.
We are asking for your prayers in uplifting Akko for her healing and financial recovery. God hears our cry. He is working. God is good all the time. Your donations will go towards her medical expenses, lost income because of her inability to work, and the care of her two sons. At this time, chemotherapy is ongoing every three weeks with the hopes to having a milder form throughout next year. Cancer sucks! Let’s help Akko beat this!
