Help Alan Rebuild After Devastating Fire
Donation protected
On October 7th, my father returned home from a Search & Rescue meeting to find his home burned to the ground. A situation made even more heartbreaking by the loss of his four cats, Max, OC, Smokey, and DC who were inside at the time. Nothing was spared in the inferno, it was a complete and total loss.
For most individuals this is where homeowners insurance would help to pick up the pieces and rebuild. My father, like many Americans, had his insurance cancelled by a company that deemed his property to be too close to wildfire areas. Due to the age of the home, and its mobile construction he was unable to obtain structure or personal property coverage. Starting over would be difficult for anyone, even more so at 83 years old.
A little about my father Alan -
My father is a disabled and decorated Vietnam Veteran, great grandfather, and an active participant in his community. Dad has resided in Big Oak Valley for the last 15 years and during his residency dedicated a significant amount of time volunteering for Nevada County Search & Rescue, assisting in operating the local water district, and offering a hand to anyone who needed it.
How will these funds be spent?
My dad was left with the proverbial "shirt on his back" after the fire. Initial donations would go to replacing basic essentials. This would represent about 25% of the goal.
The site will require debris removal, cleanup, and restoration of services. We anticipate this would cost roughly 25% of the goal as well. We're aware that commercial services are very expensive, and hopefully can reduce some of the excessive cost through help from volunteers and family.
The remainder of the funds, or anything raised above and beyond the goal would go to either a down payment on a mobile home, or the purchase of a used 5th wheel or trailer. Someplace he can call home.
The total cost to replace and furnish a home is certainly much more than the goal, but we are hoping this fundraiser will help to get things going.
We understand that charity can be difficult in this economy, and are very thankful for any donations that people can make to help Alan rebuild his home and life. 100% of the funds raised here will be disbursed directly to Alan.
Thank you again, we will keep everyone updated here on the progress.
With much appreciation.
