Help Alejandro Tijerina

On July 28, 2018, life took a very sad and tragic turn for Alex Tijerina. What seemed to be a regular Saturday with many plans, turned out to be the day that he would start fighting for his life! That morning he woke up, went downstairs, made coffee and went to start his day. His wife, Rina, heard a loud sound as if something had fallen. She heard moaning from the distance and ran downstairs to see what had happened. At that time she found Alex on the floor seizing violently and moaning. She immediately called 911, at which point she began getting dressed as she was just waking up. Within minutes, the ambulance arrived and Alex was rushed to the hospital with Rina and their granddaughter following the ambulance in their vehicle. She ate every red light following the ambulance, to the point where the paramedic told her to slow down. Alex was taken to the local hospital in Apopka, and immediately evaluated.

About an hour later, the doctor came to speak with Rina, "Alex has a large amount of blood in his brain, this situation is life threatening and extremely critical. The hospital does not have the medical capabilities needed to assist Alex so he has to be air lifted to Florida South for immediate surgery." The family waited in anticipation for the results of scans and the outcome of his surgery.

After the surgery, the doctor came out to speak with the family. His prognosis was bleak, Alex had suffered a massive stroke. With the amount of blood in the left hemisphere the scans showed no promise of a full recovery and long term acute care would be necessary, if he survived at all.

Alex is a fighter! His family is faithful that God will provide a miracle and heal Alex! They are realistic in knowing that this will be a long road to recovery and also know that a long term acute rehabilitation facility will be quite expensive.

Alex is an incredible provider and the main bread winner for his family. He has always been a hard worker and has taken care of his wife of 38 years, since they were teenagers. So much so, that he had just moved into their dream house to be closer to the family only 2 weeks prior. Rina has been by his side the entire time and has been his biggest motivator and cheerleader. They were going to celebrate finally being empty nesters after living in Poinciana for the last 18 years.

Alex is a great husband, father, grandfather, son, brother and uncle. He has always been a loving and caring giver. Alex has much more living to do, he recently celebrated his 55th birthday this past June. Please help us in giving Alex the best possible chance at making it through and unpacking his belongings and living a long life with his beautiful wife Rina.
