Help Alex and ML get a fresh start
Donation protected
Hi all,
My name is Alex and I am trying to raise funds for my partner and myself to get us out of debt and prepare for a fresh start in life as we prepare to move to Washington, DC for my new job. I know this isn’t a typical GoFundMe, but here’s our story and why we need some help. This is a huge step for me to publicly ask for help and there’s been a lot of internal debating for me, but I know we could use all the love we can get right now.
I recently earned my PhD and have been putting myself through school for the past four years on a very modest graduate assistantship ($18,000/yr) and working part time in local restaurants bartending. During my time in school, I worked roughly ~60 hours a week and am still barely able to cover our bills. I also have been diagnosed with type 1 bipolar disorder, which means—among other challenges— I have struggled with reckless spending in the past. Between covering costs of living and this condition, I have a chunk of debt I feel I will never get out of.
On top of this, I am the primary care giver for my partner who is chronically ill with a degenerative disease and is unable to work, meaning I am the sole provider for our household. Medical bills for both of us have been piling up and I am now unable to afford their medications that ease their symptoms. We have been struggling to obtain Medicaid and unemployment for them, since the pandemic caused an influx of applicants for both systems. Currently, we are preparing to move to DC because I got an amazing opportunity to work in environmental policy with the government. However, with our current situation I am not sure how we will be able to afford this move and living in a new city before I start my job in February.
Your donations will help fund us to cover our remaining/outstanding bills and debt, medical bills, and emergency funds. We are so grateful for any help you can provide us.
