Help Alex and Tabitha Rebuild
Donation protected
Our dear friends, Alex Carvidi and Tabitha Lahr, were the victims of a devastating fire in their San Francisco apartment building on August 23rd.
The wonderful news is they are physically unharmed after Tabitha's brave and traumatic escape with their cats, Vera and Edgar. Tabitha was home and trapped in their third-floor apartment, unable to get out through the smoke-filled hallway. She made it to the rooftop, where she was rescued by the SFFD down a huge fire engine ladder across Divisadero to safety. All of you who know Tabitha well know how terrified she is of heights and ladders, so overcoming those fears to get to safety was no small feat.
Their apartment was spared from the worst flames but suffered extensive water and smoke damage. All of their possessions are impacted. We have no idea what can be salvaged at this point. The building is currently uninhabitable and unsafe to enter. The early estimation is it could be up to three years before everything is rebuilt for them to return home.
We anticipate a long haul of expenses to pay for increased rental prices in the interim, refurnishing, incidentals, decontamination cleaning for what can be salvaged and all the unexpected costs of displacement and rebuilding from the ground up.
Alex and Tabitha are deeply loved by many. Several people are reaching out asking to help. A group of dear friends, colleagues and the Pine Box Boys family have set up this page to accept donations.
All the funds from this fundraiser will go directly to Alex and Tabitha.
Thank you for the outpour of love and support already.
