Help Alex Morales

A beloved member of our community and his family need our help. On August 2nd, Alex Morales, team captain for the Oakland Mills High School wrestling team, was tragically struck by a drunk driver while riding his bicycle and has remained in a deep coma fighting for his life ever since.

While tragedy is never convenient, in this case, the timing could not have been worse. Alex's mother, Caty Morales, had stopped working her previous job to take another position, which she was set to begin within days of the accident. Because of this timing, and with hospital bills exceeding $10,000 daily, circumstances have already conspired to create significant financial hardships no family should have to incur in such an already tragic situation. And given the continued severity of Alex's situation, they're going to need all the help they can get. But we can provide at least some of this help--and this family deserves whatever assistance we can provide.

Alex is an exemplary citizen, teammate, family member, and friend. He and his family have been fixtures in Howard County community service, athletics, and academia for years. Alex's most recent GPA was 4.13, and he'd recently achieved the rank of 2lt in the Oakland Mills High School Air Force JROTC. Alex has distinguished himself athletically as a lifelong wrestler and football player. Alex's achievements were preceded by his siblings' many successes before him, and this is no coincidence. This is a hardworking, driven, and faithful family--the kind you want in your corner when things get tough. And the kind you want to do all you can to help when things get tough for them.

So please, first and foremost, pray for Alex and this amazingly brave and gracious family. Then, consider closely what you can do to help. No gift is too small. We will post updates at least every few days or if/as his status changes.
