Help Alex, victim of violent carjacking attempt

Donation protected

Thank you for taking the time to read a story about my friend Alex. Last week he was brutally and senselessly shot in the head during an attempted car theft.

Exiting the car and walking up the steps to his grandmother's home he felt what he thought was a baseball bat hit him in the head. As he fell to the ground he felt the blood trickle down his face and knew he'd been shot.

The unknown attacker raveged through Alex's pockets for the car keys as he lay bleeding on his grandmother's steps. Unbelievably, Alex found what strength he had left to grab the wrist of the assailant and fight back.

Being the cowards they are, they fled when Alex fought back. As they retreated, they displayed again their complete disregard for human life, and fired a random shot into the house moments before Alex's grandmother made it down to find him bloodied stumbling  into the house.

Alex was rushed to the local hospital in Orangeburg, then transferred to a trauma center in Columbia where he is today. By the grace of God, the bullet entered his temple, traveled through his right eye, then exited the bridge of his nose. Although in shock, he never lost consciousness until being put under anesthesia at the hospital.

Alex and the loved ones around him cannot help but be grateful he is alive. Alex has no enemies. This crime was committed for nothing other than the pointless theft of a car. The police are working the leads they have to bring these individuals to justice, although it's early, no arrests have been made to date.

Alex put himself through pilot school with the dream of one day flying commercial aircraft. Unfortunately, his right eye was destroyed by the bullet and will be removed. The FAA sometimes grants medical exceptions for a commercial pilot license, but it's difficult.

The cost of Alex's medical deductible for this incident is $6,600. His prescription costs are unknown at this point. Alex has a long road ahead of him. He will need reconstructive surgery of his orbit and placement of a prosthetic eye. This event will set him back financially for some time due to lost wages and ongoing medical expenses.

I've never posted anything like this but was inspired by the thoughtfulness of others. Alex is sincere, friendly, hard working, and one of the most genuine people I know. Thank you for taking the time to read this and for helping a victim of senseless violence get back on his feet.
