Help Alice from Dallas

Hi everyone, I’m fundraising for Alice from Dallas. Alice is my miniature calf we adopted two weeks ago for only $200. We couldn’t believe we were getting her for so little. Miniature calves sell for thousands of dollars. Turns out they were selling her because she is sick. We found out quickly that she wouldn’t eat and had a fever so, we took her to the Veterinarian. They put her on antibiotics and we struggled trying to get her to eat. Her fever went away and she still wouldn’t eat and developed calf scours, a deadly condition that causes rapid dehydration. The veterinarian put Alice on more antibiotics and we began feeding Alice by putting a tube down her throat to her stomach twice a day. Alice’s health continued to deteriorate. Alice started vomited her milk every time we fed her and started bloating. Bloating in Cattle is life threatening because they build up so much pressure in their abdomen that it compresses their lungs and they suffocate. We had to start putting a tube down her throat just to release the gas from her stomach. We couldn’t get the help Alice needed locally and she continued to get worse so, we made an appointment for her at the Texas A & M large animal hospital. Alice’s appointment was on September 28th at 11am. It’s a 4 hour dive from my home. On the night of the 27th around 11pm Alice bloated up. Her abdomen was so full and causing pressure on her lungs that she just lay on the floor with her tongue hanging out of her mouth. We tried and tried to pass the tube down her throat to relieve the pressure from her stomach but, the pressure had closed everything off. We put a needle into Alice’s side and the gas immediately started flowing out. Within a minute, we were able to pass the tube into her stomach and the sound of the gas escaping from her stomach was so loud and so forceful we couldn’t believe it. We immediately scooped up Alice, who was still recovering from the near suffocation, and put her in the backseat of her pickup and headed to Texas A & M. We arrived at 4am on September 28th. The medical staff immediately rushed Alice into the hospital. Alice was as limp as a wet noodle and the urine was flowing freely from her. Dr. Murphy came out just a bit letter and said Alice was being admitted to their Intensive Care Unit and may not make it. They don’t allow anyone to enter the hospital so, they told us to just go home and they would call us when they have more information. The next day came and we didn’t hear anything until late afternoon. Dr. Murphy called and said Alice was still holding on but, not out of the woods. Dr. Murphy said Alice needs tests and scans and her ICU stay alone will cost $700 per day and estimated that the tests and treatments will cost $3500 to $4000. I am fundraising for Alice to cover her veterinary bills and save her life. Alice is very special to us. She a part of our family. Please donate any amount you can to help Alice. We love Alice and want her to come home.
