Help Alicia and James Through Transplant Journey
Donation protected
- Hello, my name is Melissa King. I am the mother of Alicia and James. Three years ago, my daughter was diagnosed with AIH, Autoimmune Hepatitis Disease. She went for a routine female check to learn her liver levels were extremely high. After extensive testing, they determined her diagnosis. The disease has attacked her liver, which has placed her at stage 4 cirrhosis of the liver. After a great deal of testing, it's been determined she needs a liver transplant to survive. This is the worst news any parent could hear. We started our journey of getting her placed on the national donor registration as well as testing family. God answered our prayers; my son James, her brother, is a match. He is going to be her living donor. We will be having the transplant on Feb 18, 2025, at UMMC in Baltimore. Her surgery will be 6-8 hours and his 4-6. Living in West Virginia, I will be staying in Baltimore for 2 weeks in a hotel until they are released. After surgery, for 3 months, we will need to travel to Baltimore every week for both of them for check-ups, blood work, and surgical staples removal. This is going to be costly, and insurance only covers so much. If anyone can help us in our financial journey, we would be greatly appreciative. Anyone who knows me understands how difficult this is for me to ask for help, but I'm thinking about my kids. Please consider donating to help us with expenses, travel, and other necessities we will have to encounter.
Sincerely,
The King Family
