Support a Longtermist Community Builder in Africa

I am Alimi SALIFOU, a law student and young researcher with interest in the rights of future generations and longtermist institutional reforms. After reviewing the draft copy of William MacAskill's What We Owe the Future, I have developed a keen interest in longtermism. Currently, I am a United Nations Foundation Innovator leading "Partnerships for Future Generations in Africa'', which aims to amplify the voices of young people especially in Africa and its diaspora, in collaboration with various partners across the globe, to influence policies for the promotion and protection of the rights and interests of younger and future generations. Given my growing interest in deepening my knowledge of intergenerational justice, I have been invited by Professor Jörg Tremmel from the University of Tübingen to join the Joint Steering Committee for the Proclamation of an Intergenerational Fairness Day (IFD) where I contribute to growing membership of the IFD and weaving network for more representation from future majority countries.
Currently I am soliciting funds to build a longtermist community in Africa. Part of funds will support my travel expenses to attend the Future Generations Forum in April 2024 in Cardiff, the UN Civil Society Conference in May 2024 in Nairobi, and the Summit of the Future in September 2024 in New York. Attending these conferences is crucial to building the required network and connections I need for a fulfilling impactful career in safeguarding the long-term future and promoting intergenerational justice in Africa.
As we speak my career capital and expertise building activities, through Partnership for Future Generations in Africa, involves the following:
A. Building a community of futureholders working to safeguard the wellbeing of young and future generations;
B. Advocating to mainstream the protection of future generations in African policy spaces;
C. Hosting monthly fireside chats on future generations featuring leading experts in the field;
D. Running a campaign for Future Generations Pledge targeting political, economic and social (religious leaders, artists, footballers etc..) heavyweights across the globe;
E. Creating Futonovel ( future + photonovel ) picture story about future lives imaging the HEM (Human -Environment-Machine) Interactions;
F. Sending newsletters/letters to African leaders pushing for actions aimed at respecting, protecting and fulfilling the rights of future generations;
G. Organizing workshops and training on futures literacy, foresight and long-term thinking in collaboration with various partners;
H. Facilitating and coordinate collaboration and partnerships within Youth Networks for future generations;
I. Designing educational and awareness programs on the rights of future generations;
J. Launching Good Ancestor Leadership Challenge (to recognize leaders and governments who are pioneering long-term governance in Africa ).
The funds will (a) enable me as an early career professional focused on improving the long-term future , (b) help shape the future today and (c) build a community of people advocating for longtermist ideas while increasing the likelihood of flourishing future generations in Africa.
[As GoFundMe is not available in Nigeria, this fundraiser is being administered by Holly Morgan, who will transfer the funds to Alimi as she has done successfully several times in the past.]
